Education CS Fred Matiang’i described as “prophets of doom”, officials who claim the 2016 KCSE results were “cooked and rushed.”

“Prophets of doom won’t stop us from leveling the ground for all children no matter their tribe and region,” the CS said, without specifying those he was referring to.

Matiang’i noted, in his address to beneficiaries of the Wings to Fly sponsorship programme in Nairobi on Monday, that the results were credible.

“We will not be distracted by prophets of doom who want us to return to the past. Teachers did a splendid job in supervising and marking exams,” he said.

Matiang’i suprised the country when he released the results much earlier than expected.

But Knut Secretary general Wilson Sossion said a forensic audit should be done as the results were cooked.

During the release, Matiang’i had said all the 88,929 candidates who scored C+ and above would be absorbed in public universities.

Matiang’i said only 4,645 candidates scored grade A– (minus), 10,975 attained B+, while 17,216 scored B plain.

A total of 55,952 candidates scored between C plus and B minus.
