All the four Presidential candidates given the nod by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC to contest in the August 9, 2022 General Elections, today held a consultative meeting with the elections commission at the Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club to deliberate on the state of preparedness by the Commission , ahead of the polls.

During the meeting, IEBC Commission Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, Marjan Hussein Marjan, took  the presidential candidates through the voter identification process and the security measures in place to ensure the system is secure and not prone to any form of abuse or infiltration

“The firm that has been contracted by IEBC to print ballot papers for the 2022 General Elections has the capacity to do bulk security printing and the Commission is confident that the ballot papers will be printed and delivered in time for the polls”, he assured.

On his part, Chairman Wafula Cherbukati, who is the Returning Officer for the Presidential Election, assured the presidential candidates that the Commission operates an open door policy and they are free to visit the commission to consult and share any concerns.

“The Commission is committed to the highest form of transparency and it is not the policy of the Commission to kick out any agent of any political party. Any such cases should be brought to the Commission’s attention”,  Commissioner Prof. Abdi Guliye stated in his remarks.

Earlier on, Chebukati took the Oath of Secrecy administered by the commission’s Director of Legal Services Chrispine Owiye. Owiye also administered the Oath of Secrecy to Commission staff, who will conduct the  elections on 9th August.
