Homabay County government has officially opened the Kabunde Airstrip with the first Plane to land receiving a water salute.

The inaugural flight by Renegade Air services was received by Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga and Transport and Infrastructure Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.

Renegade Air is a local airline that operates from Wilson Airport in Nairobi for the 45 minute ride, becoming the the first-ever flight connecting Homa Bay and Nairobi Counties.

The airline said it will be operating its Bombardier Dash 8-Q300 every Monday, Friday, and Sunday,  from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to the Homabay Kabunde airstrip and back.

Remarking on the flight, Governor Wanga said, “The launch of Renegade Air’s flight to Kabunde Airstrip will revolutionize travel and unlock new opportunities for our region”.

“This is big for us, and our neighboring counties as well, who have all joined us in this journey. The counties of Migori, Kisii , Nyamira who will find this journey to Homabay very useful”, Governor Wanga said.

Speaking at the airstrip,  Governor  Wanga lauded the coming of the flights as a great boost to the economic  activity of the county, adding that with the opening of the airstrip, more jobs will be created.

“We have received overwhelming feedback from the public who are saying that going to Homabay has never been easier. As you know, if you fly to Kisumu you (still ) have to drive to Homabay for two hours. So that has saved time. But also in terms of employment to our people, and just ( a boost to) the economic activity around Homabay”, the governor added.
