Agriculture cabinet secretary Peter Munya has been summoned to appear before the agriculture committee of the senate, to give answers on the ravaging locust invasion in the country.
This follows a motion by Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua. Senate Deputy Speaker Kithure Kindiki ordered the Cabinet Secretary to appear before the committee on Thursday morning, February 20,and also directed that the committee should issue a comprehensive statement to the whole house in the same afternoon . Senator Wambua warned that the country could be facing a serious famine due to the locust invasion that has seen crops destroyed in more that seventeen counties.
Senators Johnson Sakaja, Moses Wetangula and Kipchumba Murkomen said the ministry of agriculture and the county governments have not taken the locust invasion fight with the seriousness it deserved.
CS Peter Munya has been on record saying that the 300 million set aside for fighting the locust invasion may not be enough with more equipment and pesticides needed to succeed.
