Kenya has recorded 3 recorveries for COVID 19. Giving the daily updates, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe however said in the last 24 hours, another 14 people have tested positive for the virus, bringig the total number of positive cases in the country to 172. Of the 14 new cases, 2 are foreign nationals.

All the new cases have a histrory of travel to countries such as Tanzania and the united Arab Emirates.7 of the cases are from Nairobi, 2 from Mombasa, 1 from Machakos and 1 from Kiambu. 2 cases are from Mandera county and have a recent travel history from Mombasa county.


Meanwhile, 5,000 people have been tested of the virus today with 1015 people released from quarantine areas after testing negative.

Giving the demographics of the positive cases in the country, the Director General in the ministry of Health Dr. Patrick Amoth said one patient is in the ICU but is doing well. The others are admitted in various hospitals in Nairobi and Mombasa, of ages ranging from 2 and 74 years old.

While stressing on the importance to follow the Health Ministry directives to keep the virus at bay, the Health CS said social distancing is being abused in sporting clubs and directed the closure of golf clubs.

” In sporting clubs that have walking fields must strictly observe social distancing. The managers of those walking clubs must restrict numbers in the clubs . All golf clubs will remain closed. In this particular case, it is actually the reverse. It is the members who will eventually pass the virus tot he caddies. And therefore golf clubs will remain closed. And clubhouses will remain closed,”Kagwe said.

Further the Health CS has directed that all health workers and medical staff both in private and emergency testing facilities that hold quarantined persons to begin testing immediately. He announced that the ministry has acquired new re-agents that can automatically test the virus quickly.
