At least 20 people were killed and 48 wounded in a bomb blast outside the Supreme Court in the centre of Afghanistan’s capital, Kabul, on Tuesday (February 7), the Ministry of Public Health said.
An apparent suicide bomber targeted Supreme Court employees leaving their offices at the end of the working day, police at the scene said.
The Ministry of Health, which reported the casualty numbers, said the figure was expected to rise.
Reuters witnesses reported blood stains on the street and numerous ambulances leaving the area.
Dad Khuda, a witness present in the area at the time of the blast, said that he heard a bang and rushed to the Supreme court parking lot to look for his brother who worked there.
“Thank God my brother survived however the blast took place very close to him. Unfortunately several people were killed and wounded in the area,” he said.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility.
