The United States Embassy in Tanzania has advised its citizens in the country to remain indoors unless for essential activities like purchase of groceries and other food items.

A health alert released by the embassy has shown Dar es Salaam being a hotspot area where people are at a very high risk of contracting COVID-19. Tanzania has not released any official data on COVID-19 since April 29th, raising serious concerns on the well being of citizens amid the fast spreading virus.

“Many Hospitals in Dar es Salaam have been overwhelmed in the recent weeks. Limited Hospital capacity throughout Tanzania could result in life threatening delays for medical care, including those with COVID-19,” Reads the Alert.

Tanzania Government suspended all international scheduled passenger planes to Tanzania effective April 11 and international commercial flight options no longer exist in the country.
