Faith Mumo, the top student in the 2020 KCPE has received scholarship to enable her go to her dream school after it had seemed harder for her to get enrolled at the Kenya High School to go after her dreams due to lack of school fees.
Mumo, who scored 433 out of 500 marks could not hide her emotions after receiving the scholarship to go through high school in the form of a full four-year scholarship.
The scholarship was offered to her by the Matungulu MP Stephen Mutinda who offered to pay her school fees through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF). The scholarship will cater for the four years that Mumo will be in high school.
Mutinda issued Mumo a Ksh120,000 dummy cheque which will cater for her Form One education at Kenya High School. The amount will be deposited directly in the school’s bank accounts.
During the event, Mumo received first installment reward of ksh 120,000 towards her full sponsorship fees in Kenya High School.
The overjoyed 14 year old Faith Mumo while accepting the token vowed to return the favor some day when she achieves her dream to support other girls and boys to access education.
Her mother thanked the area MP urging him to support other needy students.
The MP acknowledged the mother’s plea stating that he set aside Ksh34 million in the DF kitty which will fund education bursaries.
Her father was rendered jobless during the Covid-19 pandemic which saw firms retrench and cut employees’ salaries to stay afloat. The accountant opted for small scale farming and other menial jobs to make ends meet. He is also supporting two other children, one in form two and another in class 8
Despite scoring the highest marks in the KCPE examinations and receiving many gifts and pledges to support her studies, Mumo said only two pledges made to her were fulfilled.
