The senate will for the third time convene to hear charges levelled against Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza following her impeachement by MCAs last week.
Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has recalled the House for a special sitting this afternoon . The Senators had been on a short recess since last week.
They will now reconvene to hear particulars of the charges facing the governor after receiving resolutions relating to the impeachment from the Meru county assembly last week.
Kingi had last week received a letter from the Meru County assembly speaker informing his office of the approval of Mwangaza’s impeachment motion.
49 Meru county MCAS out of 69 MCAS voted to remove Mwangaza in the impeachment motion tabled by nominated MCA Zipporah Kinya. the MCAs had cited alleged gross violation of the constitution, gross misconduct and abuse of office, accusing the governor of misappropriating county resources as grounds for her impeachment.
The senate will in a separate sitting decide whether to prosecute the impeachment case in plenary of by way of an 11 member committee and report to the House within 10 days.
