Pwani Oil has donated soap to three orphanages in Mombasa County as part of the company’s ongoing efforts to assist vulnerable members of society as the country fights the Covid-19 pandemic.

Some 175 children living in Hope, Minto and Nuru children’s homes will benefit from the donation. The Mombasa-based company manufactures soap, detergents and cooking oil.

Speaking while handing over the donation over the weekend, Pwani Oil Senior Manager Commercial Control Viraaj Malde, said the company is keen on assisting vulnerable groups to mitigate the challenges of the coronavirus.

“Pwani Oil has chosen to support the children in the orphanages as they are vulnerable to Covid-19. We also recognize the selfless effort of the caregivers and guardians in looking after the children. They are among the unsung heroes in the fight against the pandemic and need our support,” said Mr. Malde.

According to UNICEF, disruptions to society such as Covid 19 have a heavy impact on children especially those who are vulnerable, and should be given priority in provision of water, sanitation and hygiene facilities.

Besides reducing prices of its soap products to make them more accessible to the general public, Pwani Oil has also donated soap and hand washing kits to Kenya Ferry Services, National Police Service and to health facilities in eleven counties through the Kenya Progressive Nurses Association.

It also partnered with Kenya Pipeline Company to produce 60,000 bottles of hand sanitizer for free public use.

Last month, the company donated Ksh 1.5 million worth of foodstuffs and hygiene items like soap to 10,000 families in Kilifi County, and also gave 135,000 kilos of soap to the Safe Hands Kenya campaign. Additionally, through The National Business Compact Coalition on Corona Virus, Pwani Oil has also spent close to Ksh 5million in a media communication campaign aimed at sensitizing Kenyans on COVID-19.
