The Ministry of Health and that of ICT have launched a call centre for nurses at their complex based at Kenyatta National Hospital targeted at frontline healthcare workers. The Covid-19 Contact Centre platform can receive calls into the Healthcare Call Centre for Counselling services, and enable workers to see the status of their colleagues, deliver faxes and voicemail to inbox, instant messaging, videoconferencing, online meeting and also provide interconnection to all Nationwide Healthcare Facilities and Workers.

The contact center which sits at the National Nurses Association of Kenya (NNAK) Headquarters is a partnership between Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KoTDA), Kenya Clinical Officers Association, Kenya Medical Association, Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU), Kenya Covid-19 fund and Equity Group.

The center which was launched on Thursday will offer psychosocial support to the front-line healthcare workers as well as provide a platform to access information and exchange best practices among the practitioners.

Speaking during the launch, Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Information Communication Technology (ICT) and Youth,. Joe Mucheru said his ministry through KoTDA will provide technical support, reliable infrastructure and devices that will be linked to the National Data center located at Konza Technopolis.

Eng. John Tanui, the Chief Executive Officer KoTDA said The Covid-19 Contact Centre is a platform for frontline health workers to access information, exchange best practices, training, psycho-social support and keep track of disease incidence amongst themselves.

The Ministry of Health appreciated the utilization  of innovation and technology in providing solutions to the COVID-19 challenge.

This comes even as Kenya continues to battle COVID 19, with 178 new cases recorded in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 5,384 cases. Giving the updates, the Health Ministry said all the positive cases except three are foreigners. The youngest is a one year old while the oldest is 76.

Today’s 178 new Covid-19 cases were out of 3918 tests done in the last 24 hours. This brings the cumulative samples tested in the country to 155,315.

Speaking during a media briefing at the Kenyatta National Hospital, Health CAS Mercy Mwangangi said out of the 178 new cases, 123 are male and 55 female.

The Health Ministry has however discharged 34 patients from various facilities bringing the total number of recoveries to 1857.

The death toll arising from the virus now stands at 132 after two were confirmed to have died.

In terms of County distribution, Nairobi is leading with 100 cases followed by Kajiado with 21 cases. Migori has 17 cases, Kiambu 16, while Busia has (8) cases,

Others are Mombasa with (7) cases, Machakos (4) cases, Nakuru (2) cases, Uasin Gishu, Kericho, and Taita Taveta have one case each.
