The National Government has issued a conditional grant to all the 47 county governments that will see them hire a total of 5,500 additional health workers this time when the country is battling the coronavirus pandemic.

The Council of Governors (CoG) chairman Wycliffe Oparanya, says this will ensure the shortage of health workers is addressed immediately, with the first team expected to report to their work stations by (the 16th of this month) April 16th.

While addressing the press during his weekly county Covid-19 update, Oparanya said counties have put in place measures to ensure normal service provisions to county residents continue despite the ban on movements in four counties to limit the spreading of coronavirus pandemic.

Oparanya noted the county governments have been identified as centres where bodaboda operators will get facemasks but at a certain fee, following the directive by Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe that bodaboda operators and their passengers must put-on facemasks.

Meanwhile, CoG has postponed the planned Annual Devolution Conference that was set for April 28th, to a later date. While making the announcement, CoG chairman cited the ongoing fight on coronavirus.
