Universities have been advised against being intimidated by professional bodies over accreditation of degree programs offered in the institutions.

Principal Secretary State department for University Education and Research Amb. Simon Nabukwesi said the Commission for University Education (CUE) is mandated to accredit degree programs therefore, the professional bodies should honor and work together with CUE to reach a consensus with Universities.

He said that all Universities should work with one regulator adding that the professional bodies are free to engage the Universities through CUE especially during Curriculum review.  He urged all Vice Chancellors of Universities to familiarize themselves with the court ruling and fully implement it.

On Government support for post graduate programs, the PS said a proposal had been presented by the Higher education loans board to support students to enable them have capacity for conducting research. He also asked the universities to devise ways of mobilizing resources and take advantage of research funds provided through the   National Research fund.

The PS asked the graduands to utilize the knowledge and skills they have acquired while in the university by keeping themselves busy and engaging in menial jobs even as they seek employment. He also advised them to seek further education by applying for Government scholarships awarded through the Ministry of Education.
