Kisumu county has recorded 3 coronavirus cases since Saturday 23rd of May. According to a statement from the county governor Prof. Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o two of the cases are currently at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital COVID-19 isolation facility and one case is in an isolation facility in Nairobi.

According to the statement, the first 2 cases both male, aged 29 and 82 years are long distance truck drivers who were intercepted by the public health surveillance teams having travelled from South Sudan and Uganda respectively through the Busia border control. The third case is a 33-year-old female who was identified by public health surveillance teams having travelled with 19 other persons from Nairobi to attend a funeral in Nyando sub county.

“All the 20 were screened and tested for COVID-19. This case, having travelled back to Nairobi, has been referred to Nairobi Metropolitan surveillance teams and is currently in an isolation facility,” read the statement.

Contact tracing and testing for all the 3 confirmed cases is currently ongoing.

“We continue to urge the general public to adhere to all Government’s directives and Public Health COVID-19 containment measures. The general public should continue to be vigilant and report any cases of travel or COVID-19 like symptoms to public health officials,” read the statement.
