Kenya has recorded 80 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, the highest in a single day, bringing the total to 1,109. Nairobi county has recorded 41 new cases while 20 are from Mombasa. Siaya has 7, Kwale 6, Garissa 3, Kajiado 2 and Taita Taveta 1. With the number of active cases now standing at 684, health CS, Mutahi Kagwe said the cases in Siaya County are as a result of a coronavirus patient who left with mourners from Kibra for a burial after unauthorized clearance.
“The Siaya story is a sad one because the departure point of that case is in Kibera. Somebody in Kibera, without the authority to travel, signed a document that was respected by police all the way to Siaya. The mourners. themselves were positive,” he said.
In Nairobi, the cases are distributed in Kibera 13, Westlands 9, Langata 5, Ruaraka 3, Embakasi West 2, Embakasi East 2, Kasarani 2, Starehe 2, Dagoretti North 2 and Dagoretti South 1. In Mombasa, the cases are in Mvita 6, Jomvu 5, Likoni 4, Changamwe 3 and Kisauni 2. In Siaya, all the Seven 7 cases are from Ugenya while In Kwale, the six 6 cases are in; Msambweni 5 and Matuga 1. In Garissa, the 3 cases are from Ifo camp 2 and Hagadera Camp 1 while In Kajaido, the two cases 2 are from Kajiado central, and the 1 case in Taita Taveta County is of a truck driver.
Meanwhile, another 9 patients were discharged, bringing the total of those who have recovered to 375.
As the country continues grappling to combat the spike of COVID-19 cases, 13 Kenyans have died from a cholera outbreak in Turkana and Marsabit Counties. The Cholera outbreak started off in Garissa and gradually found its way through the other three counties, Wajir Turkana and Murang’a Counties.
