Kenya has reported nine new coronavirus cases. This now brings the country’s total number of Covid-19 cases to 59.

Giving the daily COVID 19 updates, by the Ministry of Health, Chief Administrative Secretary Mercy Mwangangi said the nine new cases come from Nairobi (6), Kilifi (1), Mombasa (1) and Kiambu (1). Out of the nine, the government said seven were Kenyans and two were foreigners.

Dr. Mwangangi said in the last 24 hours, 234 samples have been analysed in which the nine tested positive as of March 31.

“So far, the total number of close contacts that we have so far been monitoring stands at 1668. Out of this number, 508 have been discharged from contact follow up process after completing the 14 days follow up period,” Mwangangi said.

She further revealed that the government is exploring the use of the country’s boarding schools countrywide in the event the situation worsens.

“We have engaged county governments to identify specific boarding schools that will assist in boosting our capacity,” she said.

Meanwhile, all County Governments have been directed to utilize level four and five hospitals for purposes of the COVID-19 cases, 37 have complied & the rest are in the process of complying
