Kiamokama Ward MCA Ken Mainya has finally been buried at his Nyaribari Masaba home, after Police on Thursday, interrupted his funeral service and ordered mourners to return the MCA’s body to the morgue over alleged violation of Covid-19 safety protocols.

According to the police boss, funeral organizers had did not put in place safety protocols to allow for social distancing at the Gusii Stadium where members of the public had been invited to view the body.

MCA Mainya succumbed to Covid-19 on November 1, while on transit to Nairobi. Kisii Governor James Ongwae joined mourners at Mobamba Secondary school grounds, to pay last tribute to their area MCA.

Governor Ongwae eulogized the late MCA as a God-fearing man and a development conscious leader who initiated several projects during his tenure.

“As we get into the final stretch of bidding farewell to our beloved Ken Mainya, of MCA Kiamokama ward, I urge all his colleague leaders, friends, relatives and the entire community of the late to support the family and particularly do so by observing the COVID-19 protocols”, he said.

“As set by the MOH and as per the earlier advisory, all bodies can only be released to relatives on the day of internment. Fellow Kisii County residents, Covid-19 is real and it is here with us and all of us have a responsibility of protecting ourselves, bereaved families”

“The late Mheshimiwa was a man of high standing and deserves a befitting send off. Fare thee well Mheshimiwa, ” Governor Ongwae added.
