State house has announced that 4 of its staff have tested positive for COVID 19.

In a statement, Statehouse spokesperson Kanze Dena Mararo said the four (4) people were found to have contracted the disease, during last week’s mass Covid-19 testing held on Thursday, 11th June 2020

The infected officers were admitted at the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital in Kiambu County for treatment. Their families and close contacts of the affected officers are also being attended to accordingly.

State House however assured Kenyans that President Uhuru Kenyatta and the First Family are safe and free from Covid-19. State House said extra access protocols for State House staff residing outside the compound and visitors have been rolled out to furher strengthen Covid-19 containment measures.

Th State House spokesperson reminded Kenyans that every person is at risk of contracting Covid-19, No one is immune to the disease, and called for full adherence to the Covid-19 containment protocols as set out by the Ministry of Health.

This comes even as the Ministry of Health announced another 133 new cases of COVID 19 in the last 24 hours. This brings Kenya’s grand total for the disease  to 3,727. All the positive cases are Kenyans, with 93 being males and 40 females. The youngest is one year old and the oldest 70 years.

The cases are distributed as follows: Mombasa, 61 cases, Nairobi,( 53),Kilifi (7), Busia, (6), Kiambu, (2), Kajiado, Nakuru, Muranga, and Kitui, (1), case each.

Another 33 people have also recovered from the  coronavirus disease in the last 24 hours and have been discharged from various health facilities countrywide. This brings Kenya’s number of recoveries to 1,286. Sadly, one person has succumbed to the virus, bringing the total number of deaths to 104.

The total number of tested samples in the last 24 hours was 3,365 samples. The cumulative number of tests conducted so far is now 118,701.

And while encouraging Kenyans not to relax the health regulations on COVID 19 safety measures, CS Kagwe, who was speaking in Nyandarua county, lauded the local residents for ensuring the county has no positive case. Nyandarua is among 9 counties out of Kenya’s 47 counties that are so far , COVID 19 free. CS Kagwe however cautioned that no one is immune to the disease and called for strengthening of safety regulations.

Our hands are the front lines in the war against Covid-19. The Ministry of Health recommends washing hands with soap and  water as the top way to clean our hands. But if soap and water are not available, using a hand sanitizer with at least 60{d59e984f9fbc5c09e4ab0305e27bfa5819922b7230cd324f89a660f78358ca33} alcohol can help”, CS Kagwe said.

Meanwhile, the Health CS has urged county governments to ensure they meet their 300 isolation beds target. CS Kagwe said counties like Nairobi, where high number of COVID 19 cases have emerged in the recent past, should now target to have at least 3,000 isolation beds to meet the demand.
