Kenya has hit the 5,000 mark of positive COVID 19 cases,after 254 people  tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours. This is from 4,859 samples tested.

This now brings the cumulative number of tests conducted so far  to 151,396 and the total case load in the country being  5,206.

Making the announcement during the daily briefings on the disease, Health  Ministry Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Mercy Mwangangi said all the positive cases are Kenyans, with 186 being males and 68 females. The youngest is four years old and the oldest 92 years.

Nairobi, has 127 cases,Mombasa 36, Migori, 29, Kajiado, 22, Kiambu 12,  Busia, (9), Uasin Gishu, (5),Muranga (3), Machakos, and  Kilifi, (2), cases each, Nakuru, Siaya, Taita Taveta, Garisaa, Isiolo, Kakamega, & Kisii, (1) case each.

On a positive note, 41 patients have been discharged from various hospitals, bringing the tally of recoveries to 1,823.However,  2 more patients  have succumbed to the disease, bringing the total number of those who have succumbed to 130.

Meanwhile, the ministry of health has announced that the home based care and isolation guidelines have been translated to Kiswahili and counties are urged to translate them to local languages.

This is in consideration that 78{d59e984f9fbc5c09e4ab0305e27bfa5819922b7230cd324f89a660f78358ca33} of the infected persons are asymptomatic or have mild symptoms which can be managed at home. These guidelines have been developed taking into consideration of our local socio-economic situation.

Kenya launched the Home-Based Isolation and  Care protocols, on 10th June 2020. Kenya is the only Country in the region that is implementing this program as one of the case management strategies to combat the Coronavirus disease, in line with WHO guidelines.
