The Law Society of Kenya has called for urgent investigations of all prison facilities across the country, following allegations of harassment of inmates in Nakuru Main Prison last month.

In a letter to Commissioner general of Kenya Prisons, LSK through its president, Nelson Havi, has made several demands with regards to the safety of inmates in prisons during this COVID-19 season.

LSK among other demands wants to know the budgetary allocation that prison Service has set aside for purposes of requisite response to the emerging disease surveillance, whether Kenya Prisons Service has provided all officers, staff and service providers with the necessary protective gear and a brief on whether all prisoners have been trained on how to protect themselves from contamination from deadly virus.

They also want a detailed report on the Nakuru Main prison issue within seven days.
