Police in Kisumu have lobbed teargas to disperse crowds of small scale businesses in Kibuye Market after residents defied the County Government’s measures to stay at home.
The residents who turned up at the market to go on with their businesses, express concerns on the lack of a sustainable livelihood despite the quarantine measures.
The matatu terminus in the city has also been moved to Nyamasaria area as the Anyang’ Nyong’o government moves to secure the county.
Meanwhile Nakuru Central Business District has been put under lockdown with the county commissioner Erastus Mbui ordering all markets closed and motorbikes and matatu operators barred from the CBD.
Health Cabinet Secretary yesterday said all markets countrywide will be sanitized or issued with directives to reduce risk of transmission of the deadly virus.
In Kilifi, County governor Amason Kingi has issued closure notice for all firms as mitigation towads addressing the coronavirus pandemic in the county. The notice targetted all economic processing Zones, the Mombasa Cement factory, Mabati Rolling Mills, All Salt processing firms, all sand harvesting quarries, all coral blocks cutting quarries, all manganese quarries, all ballast quarries and all other industries within the county.
Governor Kingi said the notice takes immediate effect, and the firms must be completely shut down until further notice, or when the situation normalizes for the better. He cautioned the firms that failure to abide by the directive shall attract heavy sanctions including permanent closure of the business firms and prosecutions.
